This year, we are offering taster sessions at Trident Park, Normanton to show what a career in construction involves.

In line with the severe weather warning, both the OneCall team and the Landscape Team have already put additional resources in place, both in our Contact Centre and Technical Services team.

We have been supporting National Apprenticeship Week with our ‘Break the Mould’ campaign which aims to attract nine new apprentices to the business and show women that they can have a career in the trades.

Six new apprentices, aged between 16 and 19, started their journey with us in 2019. We appointed: • three Apprentice Gas Engineers; • two Apprentice Joiners; and • one Apprentice Bricklayer.

My name is Lee and I am employed as a Tree Maintenance Officer for WDH. My work involves carrying out work to trees on WDH land which can include climbing in to the tree canopy to cut back overgrowth, remove damaged limbs or a full tree removal if the tree has been assessed to be dead, diseased or damaged posing a risk to people or nearby property.

Employees from WDH have begun promoting trade apprenticeships to students from across the Wakefield district at an event at Cedar Court in Wakefield.

Jacob Brain, who completed his roofing training as a WDH Apprentice has just been awarded Roof Slating Apprentice of the Year at The Leeds College of Building BIG Awards.

WDH’s Construction Team is working in partnership with Wakefield College to provide work experience for their construction students to help improve Monkhill in Pontefract.
