The Balne Lane Yoga Club in Wakefield has been awarded a community grant by WDH to help towards the cost of running the classes.
The group, who meet weekly at the Balne Lane Community Centre, was originally led by a volunteer, but when this, combined with room hire costs was no longer viable it meant the group was not sustainable.
Wendy Mitchell, Yoga group leader said: “We want to say more than thank you for this generous donation. We’re all retired and of all different abilities and we provide a class that is welcoming, easily accessible and affordable, as well as offering all of the health benefits that come with it.”
She added: “It’s a great form of exercise and the social benefits are great, it’s become a friendship group as not all members can get out that often. Yoga classes can be expensive but ours is good value for money as we keep our charges as low as possible, only raising money for what is needed and new members are always welcome. Thanks again for this grant as it has made it possible to keep going.”
Natalie Grinsill, WDH’s Tenant Involvement Officer said: “WDH is pleased to support groups such as the Balne Lane Yoga club who not only help people to keep fit and stay healthy, they also offer residents in our communities an opportunity to socialise and meet new people which in turn is very important for people’s wellbeing.”
