Brenda Thorpe won the award in the Working with older people category in WDH’s 2015 Love Where You Live Awards.
Brenda has worked tirelessly for over 12 years to arrange trips and activities for older people in Havercroft and Ryhill.
Despite her own illness she arranges weekly activities for the group of 45 members including bingo, lunches and outings.
She aims to prevent older people feeling socially isolated and provide them with companionship and activities to keep them involved in the community.
On winning the award, Brenda said: “It is better than winning the lottery! It’s been hard work and it’s lovely to have it recognised. I will speak to the group and decide what to use the money for; it will probably be a nice trip somewhere for the members!”
