The biggest Careers Fair in the district to take place next week

Published 20 九月 2018

WDH will be attending the district’s biggest Careers Fair at Pontefract Park on Tuesday 25 September from 10 am to 6:30 pm. Young people from across Wakefield will be invited to help them consider their options.

700 young people will be attending with their schools throughout the day and there is an opportunity for young people to visit with their parents in the evening. At the event, colleges, universities and employers will be providing first-hand information on the opportunities available to them.

Up to 70 local organisations will have a stand at the event including WDH, Wakefield Council, Prospects and the National Collaborative Outreach Programme.

WDH’s Social Investment Team and HR will cover our stand to talk about our apprenticeship programme and working for WDH. There will also be an interactive activity delivered by Learning and Development.

Tenants, residents and community groups were among the winners at WDH’s annual Love Where You Live Awards grand final.

The event, held at Wakefield’s Cedar Court Hotel and sponsored by Sodexo, celebrated local community heroes who make the Wakefield district a better place to live.

A record number of votes were cast online for this year’s winners with nominees receiving over 9,000 votes.

The winners are:

Respect Champion: Mrs Donna Hyman

Community Group: Smawthorne Welfare Action Team

Working with Older People:  The Five Towns Stroke Group

Digital in the Community:  Kirkthorpe Community Group

Community Champion: Jane Robinson

Young Achiever:  Becky Slater

Best Garden: Charles Malcolm

The winners received £200 in prize money and runners up in second and third place received £100 and £50 each, thanks to the event sponsors, Sodexo.

The raffle held on the evening raised nearly £400, which will be donated to Wakefield Hospice and Prince of Wales Hospice.

WDH’s Chief Executive Kevin Dodd said: “Our Love Where You Live Awards have been a bigger and better success than ever before, with a record-breaking number of votes cast digitally for people and groups who make Wakefield a wonderful place for everyone.

“It is important that we celebrate the hard work and dedication that these people put into making their neighbourhoods friendlier, safer and even more enjoyable places to be, and we hope that the prize money they receive will go a long way to helping to continue that work.”
