WDH to hit the streets of Wakefield to reconnect with customers.

Published 20 June 2022

32,000 homes, 1,300 employees, three months and a whole lot of talking.

Yorkshire’s largest social housing provider, WDH, is embarking on its most ambitious project in over a decade to visit all 32,000 households across the Wakefield district and beyond, face-to-face throughout the summer.

The aim of the project, called WDH On Your Street, is to give customers the chance to speak to a WDH employee in person about what matters most to them about where they live, what they love about their neighbourhood and what could be improved.

Setting off on foot on Monday, 4 July 2022, WDH employees will be reaching out to customers to reconnect, listen and support them on their doorstep.

WDH is also hoping that by visiting its customers in person, employees will be able to spot the people who need additional support, such as access to grants, training for employment, wellbeing support services and money advice.

Andy Wallhead, Chief Executive of WDH said: “After the difficult years we all have faced, we think it’s the perfect time for our customers to see our friendly faces on their doorstep. We are going to them to listen, so it gives them the opportunity to speak to us directly. After two years of isolation, we feel it’s the right time for us all to get back out into our communities for a good old chat.”

Mick Walsh, Executive Director of Housing said: “The On Your Street project is an opportunity for all of us to really put our money where our mouth is. We are here to create confident communities and we do that by supporting our customers in their communities. The last few years have been difficult for our customers, kicking off a domino effect of hardship. The rising cost of living will only put more pressure on our customers, which is why we want to reach out to see how we can help those who need it most.

“We will be contacting all customers soon to let them know when we will be visiting them to ask a few short questions about their priorities, what they love about where they live, and what could be better. It will help give us a clear picture of what areas we need to focus on.”

WDH’s On Your Street project will start on Monday, 4 July 2022 and run until 30 September 2022 covering the whole Wakefield district, and other customers in the wider Yorkshire area.
