WDH is Deaf Aware

Published 9 May 2019

As part of Deaf Awareness Week 6 to 12 May, Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People visited a number of venues within the Wakefield district to ensure they are offering services suitable for someone that is deaf or hard of hearing. Our Wakefield Hub was one of those visited.

We were assessed on how accessible our services are to those with disabilities and were awarded a score out of 50.

We were awarded a total of 58! Extra marks were given for the variety of vulnerability flags used on tenant records to show they are hard of hearing or deaf and need longer to answer doors.

In return for the excellent services provided, we have:

  • received the highest mark to date;
  • been awarded the right to use the Deaf Aware 2019 logo;
  • will appear on their website; and
  • the results will be published in local papers.
