WDH are working in partnership with the Strategic Team Group to build 40 new homes in Thirsk.
This is the first time WDH has built outside of the Wakefield district and highlights the housing association’s commitment to delivering homes where they are needed. The aim is to create a family oriented development, with a range of one, two and three bedroom houses, as well as two bedroom bungalows, available for rent and Shared Ownership. The development is expected to be completed in April 2020.
It is hoped that the mix of property types and tenures will create a thriving, well balanced and mixed community.
Martyn Atkinson, Senior New Build Surveyor, said: “It’s a good opportunity for WDH to build strategic relationships with other local authorities whilst increasing our housing stock and providing much needed affordable homes outside the Wakefield area.”
As we do with our Wakefield sites, Jane Gwilliam, Tenant Involvement Officer, and Jayne Beavors, New Build Surveyor, visited Thirsk Primary School to tell the children about how to stay safe near building sites. Children created posters showing what they had learnt, and came up with a name for the street.
Jayne Beavors said: “The site is close to Thirsk Primary School, so an awareness of site safety is particularly important for the children living in the local area. The talk covers the potential hazards on and around the site.”
