Liz is just one of the many buyers who has started her Shared Ownership journey with WDH recently. She bought her dream home on her own in Cottingham when her relationship ended.
As a single, part time worker, Liz thought she would struggle to find somewhere nice to live. She found out about Shared Ownership from a local estate agent and did some research online to find out more about the scheme and if she would be eligible for it.
Liz said: “Kathryn, the sales advisor from WDH, was brilliant. From my initial enquiry and right through the whole process she talked me through everything and kept me informed every step of the way. I was very stressed following the split from my partner and worried I wouldn’t find anywhere to live but she was very positive and put my mind at rest.”
As soon as she viewed her new home on the lovely Park Lane development, she knew it was the one for her.
She said: “I wanted somewhere safe and secure to live and as soon as I visited the house and the area, I knew I wanted to move here.
After completing her application with Help to Buy and her mortgage application, Liz was able to purchase 25% of her new home, paying an affordable rent on the rest with Shared Ownership by WDH. The whole process was complete in only six months, allowing Liz to get settled in her new home just in time for Christmas.
Liz added: “I really like that as a single person who works part time, Shared Ownership gives me options. I don’t feel pressured into buying more shares but know that I can if my circumstances allow. I have safety and security by paying my mortgage and lower rent payment for my own home rather than worrying about renting privately and having a landlord.
l would recommend it to anyone trying to get on the property ladder by themselves. I have already told other people about how great the Shared Ownership scheme is and how to find the information about it.”
