Over 500 litres of paint recycled

A splash of colour will go back into community projects after the painting and decorating team donated over 500 litres of paint to be reused.

The team transported the unused and left-over tubs, as well as 43 rolls of unopened wallpaper, to the Community Repaint project, the closest being based in Selby.

360 litres of emulsion in various colours, 80 litres of acrylic eggshell various colours, 70 litres of undercoat and gloss of various colours went to the scheme which is a UK wide paint reuse network, sponsored by Dulux, which aims to distribute left over paint to benefit individuals, families, communities and charities in need of an affordable cost.

John Pickles, Sustainability Officer for WDH said: “At WDH we had a generous amount of paint just sitting in the store room which had been left over from previous jobs and by donating it to the scheme in Selby it has helped reduce our waste, contributed towards our aim on reducing our carbon footprint and helped others. The scheme makes it available for individuals and groups to purchase for £1-2 per litre (on average 75% cheaper than the recommended retail price). We are now also recycling our used paint cans which also helps reduce our waste to landfill.”
