Kitted out in style thanks to WDH grant

Published 12 May 2015

Footballers have been blazing a trail in their bright red strip bought with a WDH Community Grant.

Wakefield Athletic FC, which plays in the Wakefield and District Sunday League, was awarded £500 to buy a new kit. Christine Easter from WDH’s Wakefield Rural Neighbourhood Panel presented the players with their cheque.

Club chairman Sal Habib said the team, which plays on West Yorkshire Sports and Social Club’s fields in Sandal, and the wider community would benefit in many ways from the grant.

He said: “Wakefield Athletic gives opportunity, irrespective of experience or skill, to participate in a team which gives rise to a sense of worth.

“Players experience team spirit, togetherness and a strong sense of belonging which can strengthen and build self-esteem and confidence.

“Fitness and positive physical health are also promoted and the team game also nurtures tolerance, patience and understanding, all of which are transferable to everyday life.”

WDH Tenant Involvement Officer Chris Croxall said: “We were delighted to help Wakefield Athletic FC with their new kits and wish them every success for the future.

“If you feel your sports club or community group could benefit from a grant, get in touch.”

Applications from community groups are now invited for the 2015/2016 financial year.  The Community Grant Scheme provides small grants for events, development, equipment and materials for community groups which operate within the areas covered by WDH.
