Our award-winning apprenticeship scheme is currently underway. As well as a range of trade positions, we’re on the hunt for the next IT apprentice.
One of our IT Customer Support Officers, Liam Haylett is a former apprentice. He heard about our scheme through friends and had seen adverts in the local newspaper.
He said: “When I started my apprenticeship at WDH, I went on an outward-bound trip in the Lake District where I did rock climbing, abseiling and hill walking. I took part in a series of challenges, and it taught me a lot. The trip helped me develop strong teamwork skills, problem solving and resilience skills. I used these skills to progress throughout my apprenticeship. Ultimately, the same skills were vital to securing a full-time post at WDH.”
“I worked in different sectors of IT throughout the apprenticeship programme and rotated across various departments. These included the records management team (who deal with folder permissions) and the Infrastructure team. When I passed my apprenticeship, I successfully secured a full-time job with the WDH soon after.
“I am currently working in the ICT Service Desk as a Customer Support Officer and my role is varied which I enjoy. My main responsibilities include solving IT queries from employees and dealing with any other technological or software l issues they may experience.
The journey of an apprenticeship is not easy but with hard work and determination, I gained valuable experience, and this has helped me progress in my chosen career.”
