We strive to provide value for money to our tenants in all of our services. This extends beyond services such as building homes or repairs and maintenance, and includes services such as getting people into work, reducing debt, getting people online and providing skills and training. You can read below how we helped one tenant gain essential skills to help progress her career.
Kelly Stott was successful in getting a WDH Foundation Grant to cover the cost of a Phlebotomy course. She had previous experience within the care sector and was keen to progress her career and better her future both for herself and her family.
WDH gave Kelly support to complete the Foundation Grant application form as she struggles with dyslexia. She carried out her own research beforehand and found a training provider who could meet her learning needs, but she couldn't afford the cost of the course independently.
The two-day Phlebotomy course took place in York and Kelly passed all of her assessments with 100% scores. Kelly's next goal is to achieve the further Phlebotomy qualification and gain more experience within the healthcare sector.
Kelly said: “Being successful at getting the grant has been an amazing opportunity for me. It’s been a great stepping stone and really helped my self-esteem. I’d tell anyone to visit the job club, the advisors are so happy the help you out. My advisor was brilliant and so understanding.”
The WDH Foundation Grant Scheme gives anyone registered as living in a WDH property the chance to apply for up to £500 to help with educational support or further their professional opportunities. For more information click on the following link.
