Work has commenced on a £9.2 million scheme which will allow WDH to bring 39 new affordable homes to Castleford.
WDH and Leeds Federated Housing Association (LFHA) are working with main contractor, Esh Construction, to develop the 82-home scheme, located on brownfield land at Pemberton Road, formerly owned by Wakefield Council.
Designed by Leeds-based Brewster Bye Architects and supported with Homes England funding, Pemberton Road will be a mixed tenure development - affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership - with a blend of different sized family homes and four bungalows. The first new homes will be available in Summer 2022, with WDH and LFHA each managing 39 units and 43 units respectively.
Sue Young, Executive Director of Investment from WDH, said: “It is exciting to see construction work start on site at Pemberton Road. This new development forms part of our ambitious plans to increase the availability of high quality, affordable housing within Castleford, regenerating land that had become unused and overgrown.
“As a business, we are proud to be able to create long lasting, confident communities and build new homes in places, like Castleford, where we have a high demand. This scheme will further enhance the area, providing more local people with a range of modern living options. Once completed, we expect the properties will appeal to families, professionals as well people looking to downsize their homes."
