Baileygate Court Independent Living Scheme, the perfect place to live!

Published 14 February 2018

Joyce Schofield, 88, has recently moved back to her newly renovated flat at WDH’s Baileygate Court Independent Living Scheme in the centre of Pontefract from her temporary home in Featherstone.

Joyce, who has been a resident at the scheme for over ten years said: “I am over the moon with the refurbishments that have been carried out. It’s like a brand new building! Everything has had a face lift and it looks fantastic.”

Baileygate Court has undergone an extensive refurbishment, completely modernising the scheme inside and out, including the addition of a 12 space scooter room, salon and spa room.

She also added: “I moved into Independent Living after my husband passed away and I found I was struggling at home on my own. I visited a number of WDH’s schemes across the district with my daughter before deciding that Baileygate Court felt like home. I walked through the door and it felt as much like a home as my old house had.”

The scheme in Pontefract town centre is ideal for accessing all of Pontefract’s amenities with the town centre and bus station only a short walk away.  There is a selection of self-contained one bedroom and two bedroom flats available. WDH's Care Link emergency contact system is wired into each home ensuring access to assistance 24 hours a day. Access to the communal entrance at Baileygate Court is through a secure key system ensuring residents are safe.

Joyce said: “I feel very safe here. I feel that if I had stayed in my own home that I’d have felt anxious as it was on a busy estate. It’s very quiet here and secure which is very reassuring, not just for me but it gives my family peace of mind that I am safe.”

Residents also receive extra support from their Scheme Manager and will receive regular visits and calls to check on their wellbeing, these can be arranged to suit each resident.

WDH’s Independent Living Schemes also offer a range of social activities for residents including coffee mornings, bingo and more.

Joyce said: “You can be as involved or independent as you like. There is always something going on for people to get involved in but if that’s not for you then you can stay in your own flat. The choice is completely yours.”
