Apprentice swaps job to promote vocational education

Two WDH employees have taken part in a job swap as part of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge - a national competition to find the Apprentice Team of the Year.

To win the competition, teams of nine apprentices must promote vocational education and raise the profile of Apprenticeships.

Brandon Kane, an Apprentice Joiner, is one of nine apprentices that form WDH’s apprentice team. He recently traded roles with Tracy Tallant, WDH’s Service Director - Human Resources.

As part of the job swap, Brandon attended HR and management meetings alongside Tracy, learning how the business works and how Tracy’s team support employees in their roles. Tracy then donned a hard hat and personal protective equipment to carry out joinery work alongside Brandon at Hatfeild Court, one of the latest WDH Independent Living Schemes to undergoing major improvement works.

Tracy said: “The day has been fantastic, and we’ve both learnt a lot. Brandon is an excellent apprentice and has shown first-hand just how highly skilled our trade apprentices are. Apprenticeships aren’t just a great way to learn valuable skills, they’re an opportunity to earn while you learn, and we’re delighted to have them.”

Speaking about his apprenticeship at WDH, Brandon said: "My apprenticeship is great. I have excellent prospects, good holidays, and get to work with fantastic people."
