Local children clean up park5 June 2019

Children from Simpson’s Lane Academy in Knottingley celebrated finishing their SATs with a day in the park. Though they weren’t sitting back and relaxing just yet. They were picking up litter to improve the park, collecting 16 sacks all together, and adding planters to brighten up the area. They also did a street audit on the surrounding streets to highlight where improvements could be made.

A collection of advent calendars were handed out at foodbanks across the Wakefield District by MRM Solutions and the WDH Cash Wise Team ready for Christmas.

From today (Wednesday 28 November 2018) Universal Credit (UC) Full Service is being rolled out across the Wakefield district. UC replaces six benefits with a single monthly payment similar to a monthly working wage. The six benefits being replaced are: Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance Income-related Employment and Support Allowance Income Support Child Tax Credits Working Tax Credits Housing Benefit From today, you will need to claim UC if you are making a new benefit claim and are of working age. You might also need to claim UC if your circumstances change. Are you ready? It could take five weeks to receive your first payment so it’s important you act quickly when making your claim. Speed up the process by making sure you’re prepared now. We’ve put together some handy guidance on how you can make sure you’re UC ready. If you have any questions about UC or need support you can contact our Cash Wise Team on 01977 724651 or the DWP.

Notice to Spark Energy Customers26 November 2018

On Friday 23 November it was announced that Spark Energy has ceased trading and that OVO Energy are selected by the GB Energy regulator (OFGEM) to take over Spark's customer base.  If you're a Spark customer, it's good news - you don't need to do anything. Spark will continue to service all aspects of your account under the spark brand. It's business as usual.  Ofgem, have also advised that Spark Energy customers will not have their gas or electricity supply affected. Ofgem’s advice to customers in the meantime is: Do not switch to another energy supplier. Take a meter reading ready for when your new supplier contacts you.
