Today is World Bee Day and we have been busy as a bee putting some buzzing facts together on why bees are no threat to your green spaces, good for the environment and how you can help them along.

Work has started on a major refurbishment of WDH’s independent living scheme at Stoneygarth in Wakefield. The project, carried out by WDH’s own construction team and local contractors, will see the building being fully refurbished and the surrounding grounds fully landscaped with additional parking provided

Today, WDH is launching the WDH Community Grant Scheme for 2021 to help community groups in the Wakefield district with grants of up to £1,500.

WDH has published its gender pay gap report for 2020 which shows the difference in average earnings between men and women in its organisation. The fourth report to be published, demonstrates a slight narrowing in the mean gender pay gap to 13.3% compared to last year.

Following news of the appointment of the first West Yorkshire mayor Andy Wallhead, WDH Chief Executive, said: “We congratulate Tracy Brabin on becoming West Yorkshire’s first directly elected mayor. This is an incredibly important role and one that must champion the growth of our regional economy, with a focus on offering opportunities for everyone."

WDH has submitted plans to transform the former fire station site on Stuart Road, Pontefract into 37 residential apartments. The planning application forms part of the delivery of Wakefield Council’s Reconnecting Pontefract Masterplan.

WDH continues to improve its local neighbourhoods across the Wakefield district with the completion of £680,000 of environmental improvements to properties on Hawes Close in Airedale. This is part of WDH’s wider multi-million-pound investment planned across the district to improve communities.

In line with the Government’s roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions, we are beginning the gradual restoration of our housing services, which we had previously scaled back, to keep our customers and employees safe. On Monday, 29 March 2021, we are reintroducing, in a safe and considered way, a full repair and maintenance service for our customers and at the same time will be gradually increasing more face to face interactions, including home visits.
