New Board and Committee members

Are you interested in being involved in the strategic decision making processes of a dynamic business?

Are you willing to learn and pass on your knowledge to others?

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to recruit high calibre individuals, to join a successful Board who have continued to retain its G1 / V1 status from the Regulator of Social Housing, the highest rating for governance and financial viability. However, WDH is not an organisation that rests on its successes, and with the challenges facing the sector and the district we are already preparing for the next In Depth Assessment (IDA) from the RSH and want to ensure that our Board continues to have a membership with a broad range of skills and experience. That's where you come in.

We are always interested in individuals with the skills and dedication to develop our social value approach, help grow the business and are as passionate as we are about making a real difference in our communities.

We want our Board members to offer appropriate challenge, whilst being ambassadors for WDH and its Vision to create confident communities.

We are specifically looking for housing construction and development experience, however we would also be interested in any of the following areas of expertise:

  • Finance or banking
  • Audit and risk management
  • Estate management and local issues
  • IT and digitalisation

Our commitment is to have a Board which is representative of the community we serve, with a passion for success, who can bring diverse perspectives to the Board.

Who are we?

We are one of the country's largest registered providers and the largest rented housing provider in the Wakefield district, managing over 31,000 in Wakefield and our wider operating area across the north of England. We are a charitable Community Benefit Society registered under the Co operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

Our Vision is to create confident communities and we will do this by:

  • helping to build a more competitive knowledge based economy through local innovation and by having a skilled and flexible workforce;
  • creating socially inclusive communities, reducing deprivations and inequality; and
  • improving the quality of Wakefield's environment by providing better housing.

How will we support you?

A full induction will be provided to any new member which will be supplemented by training and support, as well as remuneration of up to £5k, based on attendance and contribution.

What do we require from you?

Attendance and contribution at Board, Committee meetings and Board Away Days. This is a minimum of six evening meetings per year. In addition, you will be expected to prepare for meetings, attend training sessions and keep up to date with current relevant issues. Board papers are sent out digitally as part of our climate change approach.

Independent Committee Members

We also make Independent Member appointments directly to our Board’s Committees. This role requires the same skills, knowledge and expertise highlighted above but as solely a Committee Member the time commitment will equate to four meetings each year, with equivalent remuneration based on attendance and contribution.

We currently have an Audit and Risk; Investment and Funding; Compliance and Assurance; and Operational Committee. Successful candidates will be appointed to the Committee where they can provide the maximum contribution and will receive an appropriate induction.

Up to the challenge and interested in joining us?

If you identify with the above and can share some of your time and expertise, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to make a real difference.
