New Board and Committee members

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to recruit high calibre individuals, to join a successful Board who have just secured G1 / V1 as a result of an In Depth Assessment (IDA) by the Regulator of Social Housing. This is the second IDA where the highest accreditation has been awarded but WDH is not an organisation that rests on its successes, we are already preparing for the next one. That’s where you come in.

We are always interested in individuals with the skills and dedication to develop our social value approach, help grow the business and are as passionate as we are about making a real difference in our communities.

We want our Board members to offer appropriate challenge, whilst being ambassadors for WDH and its Vision to create confident communities.

We are specifically looking for housing construction and development experience, however we would also be interested in any of the following areas of expertise:

  • Developing new business
  • Finance or banking
  • Audit and risk

Who are we?

We are one of the country's largest registered providers and the largest rented housing provider in the Wakefield district, managing over 31,000 in Wakefield and maintaining a further 12,000 throughout Yorkshire. We are a charitable Community Benefit Society registered under the Co operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

How will we support you?

A full induction will be provided supplemented by training and support, as well as remuneration of up to £5k, based on attendance and contribution.

What do we require from you?

Attendance and contribution at Board, Committee meetings and Board Away Days. This is a minimum of six evening meetings per year. In addition, you will be expected to prepare for meetings, attend training sessions and keep up to date with current relevant issues. Board papers are sent out digitally as part of our climate change approach.

Independent Committee Members

We also make Independent Member appointments directly to our Board’s Committees. This role requires the same skills, knowledge and expertise highlighted above but as solely a Committee Member the time commitment will equate to four meetings each year, with equivalent remuneration based on attendance and contribution.

We currently have an Audit and Risk; Investment and Funding; Compliance and Assurance; and Operational Committee. Successful candidates will be appointed to the Committee where they can provide the maximum contribution and will receive an appropriate induction.
