Our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Wakefield District has a growing multicultural community and WDH welcomes the diversity of the District and recognises the many benefits it brings to the area.

WDH is committed to treating people fairly and taking the seven equality strands of race, gender, gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief and age into consideration in all aspects of service delivery and access to services.

One of the main ways we can ensure that we value the diversity of the communities we serve is by promoting an understanding of diversity and inclusion issues with employees and customers. All employees complete our e-learning diversity training and receive more in-depth training on a range of issues from domestic abuse to dementia awareness.

There is a Diversity and Inclusion Board Champion and all Local Management Committees have an appointed Diversity Champion who attends the quarterly Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Group meetings and challenges our performance on diversity and inclusion. All Board and Local Management Committee members are invited to our quarterly Naked Lunch events, aimed at raising awareness of seldom heard groups in our communities.

WDH has a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and a Single Equality Scheme and Action Plan that have been developed with the involvement of a number of employee and customer groups. We publish our diversity activities and outcomes annually in the Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report.
