Homebuilder Programme
The Wakefield Homebuilder programme, run in partnership with WDH and Groundwork Wakefield, provides a one-stop approach for all construction employment and training throughout the Wakefield district.
The programme delivers jobs, lifelong skills, technical ability, experience and gives people confidence to gain full time sustainable employment.
Gary Marley, WDH Employee Training Manager, said:
"Wakefield Homebuilder provides an innovative and unique opportunity for unemployed people across the district to gain important life skills and training that will help them towards work in the construction industry. It benefits not just the participants but the long-term prosperity of the wider Wakefield community."
WDH Chief Executive Kevin Dodd said:
"Programmes such as the Homebuilder Programme mean we can grow more of our own local skills. By encouraging unemployed people, many of them WDH tenants, into meaningful training, we are building more confident communities."
We’re delighted with the success of our Homebuilder programme. It has:
- become number one European Social Fund provider in the region, (rated by JobCentre Plus);
- been put forward to Yorkshire Forward as a model of good practice by the Learning and Skills Council and recognised in the Regional Economic Strategy; and
- supported 115 learners to work towards NVQ level 2, and 36 towards level 3, and supported 202 people into full time employment, 43 to small to medium employers with recruitment of their workforce, which reduced their recruitment costs, 15 people into self-employment, and 159 people attained Skills for Life qualifications.
