First year apprentices

WDH welcomed our first intake of apprentices into our technical services team in August 2007.

1st year apprentices

The 10 apprentices are now in their second year of learning their trades alongside experts in WDH’s Technical Services Team on estates throughout the Wakefield district. They are also working towards college courses in their respective trades on their way to careers as fully skilled trades people.

The apprentices are: Darren Davies, David Bryan, Joshua Wood, Brett Russell, Caroline Lewis, Ben Blackett, Daniel Wright, Ashley Proctor, Steven Chocholski and Christopher Halt.

Darren and David are training to become bricklayers, Joshua and Brett are training to become joiners, Caroline, Ben and Daniel are learning plumbing, Ashley and Steven are training to become gas fitters, and Christopher is training to become an electrician. Caroline said:

I really enjoyed my work experience as a plumber and decided I wanted to do it as a job. I had been struggling to get an apprenticeship, but everyone’s been great here and we all get on really well. I’m enjoying my apprenticeship and going out and meeting people."

Ben said:

"It’s a good scheme and a good business. You start on NVQ level 2 and work up from there. There’s been lots of testing, but I’m really enjoying the process and made new friends."
