Excellence Award in Tenant Involvement

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) work hard to encourage tenants to get involved in the decisions we make, and take part in events and groups that help them have a say about what happens in their local community.

And this work paid off in April, when WDH received accreditation from the Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) [www.tpas.org.uk] for its excellence in promoting tenant involvement.

WDH employees, Board and Local Management Committee members and tenant representatives were involved in the assessment, which included focus groups, interviews, mystery shopping and telephone surveys over a two-month period.

WDH is the first Large Scale Voluntary Transfer (LSVT) organisation to achieve TPAS’s new accreditation.

WDH’s Chief Executive, Kevin Dodd, expressed delight at receiving the accreditation, and said;

‘Tenants are at the heart of everything we do, from getting involved with managing our estates, agreeing how budgets are spent, to choosing the partners for our multi-million pound improvement programme.’

Phil Morgan, Chief Executive of TPAS, said;

‘The award reflects the fact that… [WDH] displays a real commitment to involving its tenants and residents... This is the culmination of many years of hard work, and officers and residents should feel proud of their efforts.’
