Home adaptations

If you have a disability or a long-term medical condition, or have difficulty doing everyday tasks such as climbing stairs or bathing, WDH may be able to help you continue to live independently by making changes to your home.

In partnership with Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, we install both minor and major adaptations.

Minor adaptations include things like fitting grab rails or stair rails. Major adaptations include bigger things that will structurally alter your home, like fitting an access ramp or shower installation.

If you feel you need a major home adaptation, please contact Wakefield Metropolitan District Council on 01924 304550. They will assess your circumstances first, to see if you qualify for an adaptation.

You will be visited by an Occupational Therapist who will discuss your requirements. We will fit the adaptation for you free of charge once your request has been agreed by both the Council and WDH.

If it’s felt that you might need to move to a property that is better suited to your needs, the Occupational Therapist will advise you about this.
