Preserved Right to Buy / Right to Acquire
As a tenant of Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) you may be eligible to buy your home under one of two schemes:
- Preserved Right to Buy
- Right to Acquire
These schemes are offered by social landlords and give tenants the chance to buy their rented home outright at a discount, which is calculated according to where you live and the number of years you have been a tenant.
Which applies to you?
If you were a secure tenant of Wakefield Council before 21 March 2005 and you became an assured protected tenant when ownership of your home transferred to WDH you may qualify for the ‘Preserved Right to Buy’ scheme.
If you became a new tenant with WDH after 21 March 2005 you are able to apply for Right to Acquire and not the Preserved Right to Buy scheme.
