Exchange homes

You can 'swap' or exchange properties with another tenant, if you find someone who lives where you want to move to, who also wants to exchange. If you are interested in exchanging homes, take a look at the notice boards in the reception area of your local SAP – people who want to take part in an exchange often advertise there.

Exchanges can only take place with the consent of Wakefield and District Housing, and there are some rules: your rent account must be clear, and there are certain homes you would not be allowed to move into, as part of an exchange (for example, an 18-year-old tenant could not swap homes with a tenant in a sheltered housing unit).

Exchanges may take place between WDH tenants and other WDH tenants, other RSL tenants and, in some cases, tenants from the private sector.
