Wakefield and District Housing aim to integrate sustainability into every step of housing development, from the feasibility and design stage right through to the way energy and water are used by those living in the home, and how any maintenance work is done.

  • Policy, strategy and planning – sustainable development principles are integrated into all our our policies, strategies and planning processes.
  • Improving environmental performance – we take account of sustainability principles when planning the siting of houses, the materials from which they are made, and the uses their occupants make of such resources as energy and water.
  • Sustainable communities and construction – we aim to build and refurbish houses to standards that contribute to their residents’ health and well-being. We address issues such as climate change from the feasibility and design stage of a project. We certify to our Board and Local Management Committee that any bids for funding for new schemes are sustainable.
