Community leadership
The Community Leadership Programme is a personal development programme for young people in the community. It was set up to make sure our communities are equipped with leaders for the future.
WDH will work with young people on a wide range of Outward Bound activities, in which they will learn practical skills and possibly discover hidden strengths while meeting various challenges.
Over 1,000 young people from across the Wakefield district will be selected from local schools and given the opportunity to participate, over the next five years.
The Programme, to be delivered in partnership with Outward Bound Limited, was agreed by the Board of Wakefield and District Housing in March 2006, and involves a series of events throughout the country.
Some quotes from people who have already participated:
- "I have learned new things, and challenged myself".
- "I learnt to trust people I don’t know and to use teamwork".
- "I learnt how to trust people with my life who I did not know".
- "I loved it because I made friends as well as learning and having fun".
