Partnerships and projects

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) is involved in a variety of different projects, from building new homes – and improving existing ones – to promoting safety in the community, tackling financial exclusion and running leadership programmes for young people.

Often it is more effective for organisations to work together to address local issues rather than working alone, especially when some of those partners have specialist knowledge in a particular area.

We have close working relationships with many different organisations, including community groups, voluntary services, PCTs, private companies and the police.

In this section, read more about our projects, the partners we work with, and the benefits this can bring to the people who use our services.

Wakefield District Community Safety Partnership... WDH is working with Wakefield Council, West Yorkshire Police and other local organisations to help reduce crime and the fear of crime, by making sure that people feel safer in places where they live and work.

Community Leadership... A personal development programme for young people in the community has been set up by WDH in partnership with Outward Bound Limited.

Neighbourhood Management Pilot...Neighbourhood Management is a ground breaking scheme which aims to make sure local people can play a key part in improving services in their community.

Fire Safety Partnership... WDH is developing a new partnership with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to help promote awareness of fire safety.

Services for younger people... WDH works closely with Fundamental, a charitable organisation, and Wakefield Council, to organise activities and events involving children and young people and give them a say.

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) Community Forum... Group that meets twice a year involving tenants, WDH and other agencies, to discuss how to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour.

Wakefield and District Partnership... We are part of Wakefield District Partnership, the local strategic partnership for the Wakefield district. This is a partnership made up of the main organisations delivering services that affect the lives of everyone in the area.

Affordable home insurance... WDH is working with Royal & Sun Alliance to provide low-cost contents insurance for tenants and leaseholders. This insurance is easier to qualify for, and the cost can be paid weekly

Improvement programme... We are working in partnership with NPS North East, Keepmoat, Bullock and Mears to undertake the five-year, £700m improvement programme to raise WDH stock up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2010.

Decoration voucher scheme... WDH is setting up a decoration voucher scheme in partnership with ICI Dulux. As part of this service, tenants can receive Dulux vouchers to help with decorations after modernisation work has been done on their home.

Building new homes ... WDH is a part of a regional development partnership known as the Synergy Partnership, along with a number of other Registered Social Landlords

Approved contractors... WDH has partnership agreements with certain manufacturers.

Payzone... Rent can now also be paid at outlets that display the 'Payzone' sign, thanks to our partnership with Alphyra (who owns Payzone, Europe's largest cash acceptance network) and Alliance and Leicester.

Tackling financial exclusion ... More about financial exclusion and how we are working to eliminate it.

The Green Corridor Programme...The Green Corridor Programme is the long term partnership of Barnsley, Doncaster and Wakefield Councils, who have come together to improve the former coalfield communities across the three authorities.
