Groundwork Wakefield

The central Wakefield area is covered by Emily Ramskill, Kay Stringfellow and
Brian Precious. Emily has worked for Groundwork Wakefield for three years and Brian and Kay have recently joined the team.

The Wakefield Central team covers the central and west areas of the district; the boundary follows the Wakefield and District Housing areas for Wakefield City and Rural and Lupset, Ossett and Horbury.

Currently the team are working in the Eastmoor, Portobello, Peacock, Darnley and Gawthorpe areas but also work in many other neighbourhoods.

SureStart

SureStart Children’s Centres offer access to a range of support for families with children under five. They offer children the best start in life and help them to reach their potential – and parents benefit too.

SureStart offer a range of services that will vary from time to time, including:

  • support for parents;
  • child and family health services;
  • helping parents into work; and
  • integrated Childcare and Early Education 0-5 on site or through linked providers

BTCV Green Gym - Lupset Community Garden Project

Lupset Community Garden holds weekly sessions every Thursday 11.00am-2.30pm. The garden is sited behind St Georges Church, St George's Road (Off Broadway).

Green Gym sessions offer opportunities to:

  • Take part in healthy, outdoor activities
  • Grow vegetables, herbs, fruit & flowers
  • Learn new skills
  • Meet new people
  • Get involved with art projects
  • Improve your local environment
  • Join the steering group
  • Plan and organise

Tea, coffee & biscuits provided free

Things to remember

  • Suitable clothes and footwear for working outdoors.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

SureStart Jobshop Drop-in

SureStart Michaelmas Children's Centre are working in partnership with various agencies, including Wakefield and District Housing, Job Centre Plus, Groundwork Trust and many more, to hold drop-in sessions at Balne Lane Community Centre, every Thursday afternoon at 1 pm, starting on Thursday 16 July. Agencies will be on hand to help you with your CV, build confidence and identify training needs and opportunities, and help you look for work.
