What do I need to do to prepare?

In order to watch digital TV you need a digital receiver. Digital receivers are built into some new TV sets, but you can also convert nearly any TV in your home to Digital providing it has an aerial outlet or scart socket via a Digital set–top box, using an aerial, cable or satellite TV. If you live in a WDH property please seek permission before erecting any satellite receiving equipment by filling in our online request form

You already have a digital receiver if you have any of the following:

digital tick logo

A digital TV, if your TV has a digital tick logo on it or Freeview built in.

Freeview Logo

A Freeview box, if you have a set–top

Sky Logo

A Sky Digital box, if you are receiving digital TV via your sky subscription.

Virgin Media

Virgin digital cable TV, if you are currently receiving digital TV via cable TV.

Do I need a new Aerial?

If you have a poor reception, a new aerial may be required in order to receive digital TV. However there is no such thing as a digital aerial, all aerials receive both digital and analogue signals. If you are currently receiving digital TV using a digital set–top box, then you are likely to be digitally ready now.

Do I need to replace my DVD recorder / VHS recorder

Your DVD recorder or VHS recorder will still play/record digital TV after the switchover, however unless you have more than one digital receiver, you will not be able to watch a different channel while recording.
