New affordable homes in Barnsley help residents get on the property ladder

We're helping more than 60 families to buy or rent a new home in Barnsley, thanks to our new development in Wombwell.

Pearson Croft is a collection of 61 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes on Hough Lane, built by Hoober Urban Partnerships and available for affordable rent or shared ownership.

It's been made possible by grant funding from our strategic partnership with the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, Homes England.

Shared ownership is a national scheme that aims to get people on the property ladder by giving the option to buy a share of a home and pay affordable rent on the rest. This can mean a smaller deposit, smaller mortgage repayments and the flexibility to increase shares in the future.

Sue Young, our Executive Director of Investment, said: “It has been great to work with Hoober Urban Partnerships to bring more affordable housing options to Barnsley. We’re passionate about creating and supporting confident communities and these new homes will be a great opportunity for people to get on the housing ladder.”

David Wroe, Director of Hoober Urban Partnerships, added: “It's great to complete our first development in partnership with WDH to bring high quality affordable homes to Wombwell. Building on its success, we are already midway through our second project together and have recently commenced two further schemes.”
