Working with Young People 2014: Friends of Fryston Woods

Published 9 October 2014

Friends of Fryston Woods collected two gongs at our 2014 Love Where You Live Awards – Working with Young People and Green Hero.

Their outdoor activities such as den building have helped improve confidence levels in young people aged 11 to 18, while they displayed their green credentials with a bee-keeping project and plans to grow produce for families in the community garden.

The group’s three-day ‘Wood Fest’ demonstrated traditional woodland and bush craft skills to 100 people, for whom it would otherwise have been too expensive or inaccessible.

Steve Wright, of the Friends of Fryston Woods, said: “I had no idea we were going to win. We’re purely grant funded so to win £1,000 of funding means a lot to us. I’d like to thanks everyone who voted for us, and we will use the money to fund more community projects and a celebration event for the local community and everyone who works with us.”
