A tenant from Ossett celebrated her 100th birthday with coffee and cake and retold her memories of the last century.
Kathleen Ashurst, a WDH tenant at Croftlands Independent Living Scheme, turned 100 on Saturday 14 June and enjoyed a meal out with her family of five generations.
She also enjoyed a morning out in Ossett Town Centre and had a look around the market as this is one of the things she really wanted to do to celebrate her birthday.
She said: “I enjoyed every minute, I have been spoilt rotten. It was really lovely to get all the family together.”
When asked what her secret to a long and healthy life was, Mrs Ashurst simply said: “Olay!”
Growing up in Bridlington, Mrs Ashurst began working as a shop assistant at 15 years old and didn’t retire until she turned 75.
In her retirement, she enjoys playing bingo and cards with her fellow residents at Croftlands, where she has lived for the last eight months.
A particular highlight of her birthday was the photo she received from the Queen.
Mrs Ashurst said: “She looked so beautiful and it reminds me of when I used to give myself a makeover.
Gillian Fossey, WDH’s Independent Living Team Leader, said: “We would like to say a big congratulations to Kathleen. She is such a lovely lady and it’s always a pleasure to speak to her.”
