A dozen members of Havercroft Parent Forum refused to get into a lather when they tried soap carving – in fact, they decided it was very therapeutic!

The craft workshop at Havercroft Children’s Centre was organised by WDH in conjunction with The Hepworth, Wakefield.

Sarah Richardson, from the gallery, and artist Jennyanne Smith joined the group, who created birds, Christmas crackers and abstract shapes from the cream-coloured soap bars.

WDH Tenant Involvement Officer Jane Gwilliam said craft sessions were currently being organised across the district for residents to hone their creative skills.

Jane said: “I’ve done some soap carving previously and have a carving on my desk. It requires a lot of skill and concentration but it’s good fun.”

Nikki Moxon, who created an owl from her soap bar, said: “It’s very therapeutic and I’ve enjoyed myself.”
