WDH tenants in Knottingley prepared for a ‘Bungalow Bash’ later this month by brightening up their gardens with colourful planters.
Green-fingered Hazel Richardson, who won £500 in last year’s WDH Love Where You Live Awards, decided to spend the cash on planters and flowers for Cherry Tree Avenue. Additional money from Wakefield Council’s Neighbourhood Improvement Fund was also used to support this project.
Volunteers, including WDH Tenant Involvement Officer Natalie Guy and Pontefract Neighbourhood Policing Team, together with WDH’s contractors Sodexo, helped Hazel and husband Alan to fill 46 planters – one for each bungalow – with colourful blooms including geraniums, fuchsias, marigolds and lavender.
Hazel, who lives in nearby Hawthorn Avenue, thanked everyone who helped. She said: “I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Now residents are preparing for their next social event – a ‘Bungalow Bash’ Neighbourhood Watch event on Saturday 27 June when they will enjoy strawberries and cream, cakes and entertainment.
