Pass it on: We can offer tenants extra help to pay their rent!

Janet is waiting for tenants' call.

Here at WDH we understand that some of our tenants can struggle to pay their rent - even after they’ve received their Housing Benefits payments.

There’s all sort of reasons why this happens, but if you know of someone struggling to pay their rent - even after they’ve received their benefit, then please pass on some good news onto them…

Working with Wakefield Council’s Housing Benefit Section, we could help them find extra financial support to pay their rent!

We have access to a limited amount of money, which is called Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP).

This payment is administered by Housing Benefits and can be used to help people with their housing costs.

To be considered for a DHP:

  • the tenant must already be receiving some Housing Benefit for their rent; and
  • there must be a shortfall between what they receive in Housing Benefit and what they should pay in rent.

If you know of a tenant who gets Housing Benefit yet still has difficulty paying their rent, please ask them to phone WDH at OneCALL on 0845 8 507 507.

Members of the Debt Team will even help them fill in the forms and make their application!

Thanks for your help!
