The fight against crime in our area has received a huge boost with news that Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) has launched a free security and installation upgrade service to combat burglary.
Working in partnership with West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire Service, WDH is not only offering tenants free security gadgets to combat Bogus Callers, but will also fit them in their homes for free.
WDH Rapid Response Manager Kevin Needham says the new service offers tenants and residents a choice of products to suit their different needs.
“We’ve got many different security products available specifically to address bogus callers, “ explains Kevin, “A couple of example include exterior anchor plates that secure bikes and garden furniture, through to electronic devices that detects movement and plays recorded messages.”
“There are also several other practical devices on offer like door chimes, property marking kits and door-chain mirrors to prevent criminals taking your belongings. These are just a few of what’s available.”
The new free service is the latest anti-burglary service to be funded by the national 'Safer Homes' initiative that was instigated last year to bring in tougher enforcement measures on anyone responsible for household crime.
It is anticipated that the Safer Homes Fund will allow WDH to improve the home security of up to 1,000 properties in the district regardless of their tenure, in order to help make people feel safer where they live.
West Yorkshire Police will be responsible for identifying appropriate areas and tenants living within these areas will qualify for the new service.
“Here at WDH we take the security and safety of our tenants very seriously, “ says Kevin, “Working with West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire Service we are now taking further steps to ensure that all our tenants have effective protection from bogus callers and burglars.”
